New Government Standards

As mentioned to Providers at the last in-service, the Government of Alberta has released a revised Family Day Homes Standards Manual. The changes that will most affect providers are:

  • the change of wording to Standard 8: Supervision.  Where it used to state that children under 19 months must be within the provider’s sight at all times, unless napping and then a baby monitor may be used, the wording has been changed to state that a baby monitor must be used.
  • Standard 10F: where the standard used to require reptiles and amphibians to be in locked rooms, it now only requires them to be in locked cages or aquariums.

We would suggest that parents and providers read through the new Standards Manual, which is available here.

A Medicine Hat provider sent in this photo of adorable butterflies, saying, “The children folded paper towel twice (to make a “caterpillar”) and put each end in a different color of water. We watched the water climb up the paper towel and guessed what color it would be when they mixed in the middle. Once dry we used pipe cleaners to turn them into butterflies :)”.

They are so cute!
