Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Day Home?
A Day Home is an approved private residence, in which all occupants have been thoroughly screened. This Approval process is conducted by Day Home Agencies under contract with CFSA (Child and Family Services Authorities). Standards come into effect such as limits on the number of children, based on an evaluation of the Provider and the Home, and restrictions on the number of children in a particular age group who may be cared for.
Why choose a Day Home over private care?
While private care arrangements can work well, the advantage of using an approved Day Home is that you can expect certain standards of care and certain services:
- Day homes are monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure that standards are maintained. Our Agency makes regular visits to monitor the care provided
- We strive to provide back-up
- Educational programming is offered on a daily basis, including music, games, and outings. This allows the children the freedom to experiment and explore their surroundings, indoors and out
- A provider has strict limits on the number of children cared for based on energy, skills, experience and the suitability of the residence
- Education through home studies in Early Childhood as well as ongoing Training Sessions are given to enhance the provider's skills and knowledge
- The Agency collects all fees and pays providers. Tax receipts will be issued to all parents and providers
- Nutritious meals and snacks follow Canada's Food Guide
- Government Subsidy is available to all qualifying parents
- All Providers undergo a police information check and a child intervention check
- All Providers possess a valid First Aid Certificate
- The Agency is available as liaison between Parents and Providers
Why choose a Day Home over a Day Care Center?
- Smaller groups, for more individual attention. Siblings of different ages can stay together
- Flexible hours of care to accommodate shift work or irregular hours
- The same care-giver, from one day to the next
- Fees are generally lower
- Many different locations for your convenience
- Home atmosphere
- More flexibility in allowing the children to follow their own schedules
